Abstract Guidelines

It is a tradition at the Society of Fetal Medicine to encourage young talent & “younger presenters” and FetalNeurocon 2024 will be no exception.

You can be a presenter in three ways:

  1. A traditional research paper.
  2. Electronic Poster.
  3. A Just Images Case / Small Series on a specific condition / investigation.

Please read ALL instructions carefully.

All abstracts will be anonymised and judged by an independent group of judges. Abstracts that score the highest will be included in the main Congress program.

Traditional Research Paper & Electronic Poster:

  1. The theme for this year’s abstract submission is the same as the Congress: Fetal Neurology. This includes screening, guidelines, protocols, validation, imaging, genetics, prognostication, counselling & postnatal care.
  2. All abstracts must be submitted via the official Congress online submission system.
  3. Abstract word limit: There is a limit of 500 characters for the text of your submission and 150 characters for the title of your submission. The total count includes spaces, tables and images. You will be advised of your character count usage throughout the submission process as you save and move to the next step.
  4. TITLE and BODY: The title should be entered in lower case, using capital letters only where essential (e.g. The effect of parity on second trimester uterine artery Doppler parameters). Please do not put your title in quotation marks. Please do not use formatting tags in the title. Please do not add a full stop ('.') at the end of the title. You may copy and paste your submission body from your word processor into the appropriate sections.
  5. Abstracts should be structured using the following headings: Objectives & Background, Methods, Results and Conclusions. Please note that these sections are clearly marked for you. Please DO NOT include your own headings as these will be automatically created for you once you submit the abstract. Authors must not include already published data.
  6. ABSTRACT PROOF: Carefully check the proof of your abstract. Make sure all special characters and formatting are displaying properly in your proof. Please note that you are responsible for proofing your own abstracts.
  7. COMPLETING YOUR SUBMISSION: If you have not completed all required sections and details you will not be able to submit your abstract. When all required information is entered, the "Submit" button will appear at the bottom.
  8. PRESENTATION TYPE: All abstracts will usually be considered for oral presentation or electronic poster presentation. You will be asked to indicate if you cannot present orally.
  9. The decision of the Scientific Committee will be final and binding.
  10. If accepted for an oral presentation, the author will be able to make the presentation in front of a live audience at the Congress. The date and other details of the session will be sent to the author in a separate email.
  11. If accepted for a poster presentation, the author will be required to submit the poster as a single ppt. slide in an electronic format in advance of the Congress. Poster authors will be sent detailed guidance on how to do this, once their abstract is accepted. Posters will be made available electronically for delegates to access during the Congress.
  12. By submitting an abstract, you authorize Society of Fetal Medicine to record your presentation (if accepted). All or a portion of presentations, discussion, question and answer, comments, documents and presentation slides presented will be recorded and may be selected for inclusion on the event platform, website, On Demand web portal for members, YouTube & social media. These may also be used for promotional purposes.

Just Images Case / Small Series on a specific condition / investigation

Send us a proposal and your case as a one slide powerpoint with an image/ collage & a legend. Remember, all this on one PPT slide with minimal text.
